Situations: (Runners at 1st and 2nd and we are bunting) The runner at 1st gets a safe lead (not very far off), the runner at 2nd is literally stealing 3rd (keep going if the bunt is down OR no one is covering 3rd and you can make it....otherwise STOP and sprint back to 2nd...no one should be covering 2nd as the 2B is covering 1st and the Shortstop should be covering 3rd....beware of the centerfielder coming to cover). We SLIDE on every play that could possibly be a play, when in doubt, SLIDE!
(Texas Leaguers) These are balls that you are not sure if they will be caught and are just over the infielders heads...in this situation get off the base as far as you can AND STILL GET BACK if it gets caught....you have to use YOUR judgement.
(Foul FLY Balls) Tag up on EVERY Foul FLY ball because you cannot advance unless it is caught. Be on the base ready to advance if possible....especially if the fielder dives for the ball.
(Tag Ups) You must be ON THE BASE when the fielder 1st touches the ball on a fly ball. THEN you can advance....you should wait and SEE it touched before leaving the base.
(GO GO GO PLAY) In this senerio the batter bunts the ball and the coach yells GO GO GO trying to sucker the 3Bman or pitcher (we bunt this to them) to try to fake a throw and get us out, the runner actually stays at 3B, hopefully we end up with both runners safe.
(Bunter is safe at 1st) If you are safe at 1st on a BUNT you should immediately look to 2B to see if it is covered, if not you should IMMEDIATELY advance to 2B.
**1st and 3rd Plays** Pick off at 3B - (sign - catcher rub hand down left leg, 3B pound glove) After the signal the 3B should move around a bit and reposition self on the 3B line, catcher calls a rise ball, and then throws ball at the runner, 3B should catch and tag all in the same motion) Catcher....be sure runner is not running home, may need to freeze her quickly first. 2B - throw all the way through to get runner (Catcher rubs top of helmet), we WANT the girl stealing for a sure out, attack her in a rundown as well, esp with 2 outs, if she stops you may quickly throw to the pitcher who should aggressively attack the runner to get the out.)
